Quantitative Economist (or Senior Economist)

Summary: We are looking for quantitative economist to join our rapidly growing team as Economist or Senior Economist. Candidates must have a track record of quantitative economic modelling or econometric analysis in research contexts. Such experience might include:

-          Manipulation and analysis of very large datasets

-          Causal estimation on observational data

-          Development of CGE or DSGE models

-          Financial asset modelling

-          Optimization or microeconomic modelling

-          Geospatial analysis

Successful candidates will show a strong aptitude for problem solving in economic or financial topics relevant to Vivid’s work and a willingness to build on their existing skills in quantitative analysis or coding.

Economists are experienced in the delivery of consulting or research projects, taking on responsibility for the design and execution of economic analysis and presentation of results and implications to clients. The role of  Senior Economist encompasses that of an Economist, along with project management activities including problem framing, delivery and client engagement.

Description of the role: New team members recruited through this opening will contribute to the development and deployment of Vivid’s modelling capabilities. This includes bespoke econometric and spatial analysis, the use and expansion of proprietary asset pricing and computable general equilibrium models, and the use of third-party integrated assessment, energy system and land-use models. Candidates are expected to have substantial experience in the use of at least one programming language (such as Python or R) or software package (Stata, GAMS, MATLAB) in a professional or research context. Candidates should have a willingness to proactively develop skills in other tools and models through project work and largely self-guided study.

In common with all of Vivid’s consulting staff, successful candidates will be highly adept in problem solving in economic or financial topics related to Vivid’s work.

A successful Senior Economist is able to analyse new and complex economic problems, design and apply advanced quantitative and qualitative methods, and produce high quality end products. A Senior Economist will also be expected to manage some staff and parts of projects, as well as to begin to develop client relationships.

An Economist can substantially contribute to the development of methodologies to solve complex problems, execute technical work a considerable degree of autonomy, and present findings verbally and in writing to non-economist clients.
